My heart broke again watching this thinking of that woman who lost her life in this event. However, I made me a bit less afraid to fly again. The quality of pilots is outstanding. This Captain remained calm and did what she needed to do to save the rest of the lives on board. May they all find a peaceful life after this insane event.

In addition to my questions about whether the cabin crew and flight crew actually handled this emergency as well as they could have, I hope someone will be able to correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't single engine failure one of the STANDARD emergency training procedures given to flight crews in their simulator training? particularly engine failure during takeoff, which it seems to me would be much more challenging, with the plane at low altitude and at full engine power? I'm sure it must be shocking to have an engine fail at altitude (although they were climbing at the time), and it's admirable that they responded so quickly and effectively, but is this not what they are trained to do? Should we expect anything less? after all, there are an awful lot of 2 engine airliners in the air these days. (when they were first introduced, at a time when four engine 707s and DC-8s, and 3 engine 727s were the norm it was considered as potentially risky. I compare this situation to Captain Sully, who had to deal with double engine failure and a water landing. That to me was exceptionally exceptional, rather than standard emergency training. I guess I just don't understand the tone of the comments here.

7:30 I do not understand this exchange between the pilot and ATC. Maybe I don't know the proper protocol under these circumstances, but it does not make sense to me. The captain is already aware that the plane has experienced explosive decompression, as the oxygen masks have deployed. ATC asks, "Just so I can understand, you are still single engine and what else?". Inexplicably (to me), the cabin crew has not yet informed the flight crew that there is a window blown out, and a passenger is halfway out the window supposed to sub-zero (Farenheit) temperatures. The captain does not yet know what caused the explosive decompression. Despite this lack of situational awareness, the pilot nonchalantly replies, "OK, SW 1380. we're single engine. That's it." That wasn't just it. if nothing else she knows that the cabin has been depressurized. Why does she not convey this to ATC? I appreciate that she is "cool as a cucumber". That's great, but I don't want a cucumber flying a plane that I'm a passenger on. No reason to panic, but her tone of voice sounds like she's chatting with a friend on the phone, with all the sing songy intonation that you'd expect in a casual everyday conversation. There's not even a calm measured description of the actual situation. Is this the protocol in an emergency situation? Was there any latitude for the pilots to decrease their speed somewhat which may have allowed people to pull the poor woman back into the plane before she died of exposure or whatever else? Maybe she would have died anyway. I don't know that based on the information provided. I just don't get it. yes they handled the situation well. but could they have handled it better? Why did the cabin crew not inform the flight crew about the blown-out window? This seems to me to have been important, if not essential information, to say the least. Until I know the answer to these questions I will stop short of heaping gushing praise on the crew that I've read in the comments above.

Ok not to be the victim blamer, but how exactly did the woman get partially sucked out of the plane? The only way I could imagine it happening is if she wasn't seated or buckled? If she were using the bathroom sure, but that doesn't seem likely.

I must say it too FAR too long for the captain to be told that the plane had depresserized (over 10 MINUTES) and someone was hurt. Of course when the captain declares a emergency normal procedure is the crew deals with the passengers and lets the captain focus on flying. This is best for most emergency landings as of the 160 crash landings in recent history all but 13 had ZERO fatalities, hence the reason the world reacted so swiftly to the 3 Boeing 747 Max's having ZERO survivors as prior to 2018 the number of fatalities had been decreasing every yr and was down to under 800. Then 2018 rolled around and there was 1500 fatalities and multiple brand new jets which should be the safest crashed (MAXs) inexplicably and there was plenty of evidence which showed that the planes at full speed flew into the ground which is crazy as it's not NORMAL to have fatalities, it's normal to NOT have fatalities during a emergency landing.

Acum 21 o Zi
giveherthevenom
giveherthevenom

This was not even a difficult situation for any well experienced and trained pilot. And all pilots are trained to stay calm, this was totally controllable situation with total aircraft control in the pilots hands(no1 was about to die rofl). And no 15 alarms went of lol and they dont make any pilot panic, its only 1 alarm which is the GPWS the pilots nightmare. Not staying calm in this peanuts situation and endangering lives of so many could be the end of her career. The real test begins when you know for sure that you are dead and living final minutes on bought time. An example would be JAL 123 where the tail broke off and pilots lost all vertical control and knew they were flying deadbodies but stayed calm and actually bought few minutes extra of life for 500+ people.
