In my latest video breakdown, I wanted to see how the Patriots held the Rams to 3 points in the Super Bowl. We’ll cover:
    1. Bill Belichick’s game plan
    2. Front seven’s performance and how they took away the Rams’ zone running game
    3. Coverage trends that Belichick used to counter Sean McVay’s scheme
    4. Jared Goff's performance - Was it as bad as people thought it was?
    Hope you enjoy the show!

Nice, Love it . I would like to see a breakdown on how/why the Patriots offense was not great.

How Bill Belichick and the Patriots held the Rams to 3 points in the Super Bowl: Simple answer: They forced Jared Goff to have to think for himself rather than get his hand held through the entire game. The Rams then helped by insisting on giving C.J. Anderson equal time rather than give the rock to the one guy that the Patriots might not have been able to account for.

When Goff passes from under center 90% its play action. The Pats disguise coverage to well. Goff makes his PA fake his back is turned, cant read post snap changes by Patriots. Rams need to do more 5 and 7 step from under center.

the 6-1 front widens the edge, puts people in position to cut the effectiveness of jet sweeps and outside zones. The 6-1 also eliminates bubbles (soft spots) on the front 7, moving the bubbles to the second level. Also, the coverages showed late, until after the 15-second cutoff of the headset in helmet. So, McVay couldn't read defense and Goff isn't able to do it on his own yet,

The primary element taking the Patriots forward next year is exactly that not one of them is a football 'talker'. No Patriot will tell you what they did, what they do, or what the plan. Belicheck tells you what he wants, to win

Hats off to the Patriots, one of the most successful franchises in the history of professional sports, however, if Dee Ward of the K.C. In the end, it's not how "good" your players are in the big game. It's how good your players play. The Patriots played team defense, and everyone did their job like it was the biggest game of their life. The Rams did not match that, with arguably better ability. That's why I love the Patriots.

The bottom line is the pats had a terrific game plan. They made this game a battle of attrition, a chess match. Instead of the obvious looks and reads the pats covered up a lot of there schemes especially on defense.

Wade Phillips is the only DC that can shutdown Brady, he's the only Defensive coordinator that can confuse him, He did it with the broncos when they had manning. The Rams didn't score enough that's what killed them. to beat the the patriots you need elite play from the QB position. Goff hesitated to much rather than to trust his arm like Nick Foles. Nick Foles made some incredible throws last year, clutch throws. Payton Manning beat them with a weak arm. If Andy Reid had Wade Phillips, they would've have defeated the Pats.

I used to think that of all the more popular games played by professionals, golf was dumber, more time squandering, and the guy who could hit the really long ball was more than amply rewarded. GOLF WAS THE SILLIEST. Until I tried it, and found out some of these guys knew....the relative humidity patterns for the last few days, thereby changing THE RESILIENCE & FLEXIBILITY of each blade of grass... Palmer, Niklaus, biologists? Load up the "ground" program, figure how it was going to react through the day, combine it with the "air" program; how the breezes wind throught the trees, humidity, temperature change... and, the ball, the club? iT'S all in your head... SORTA. The SMARTEST GUYS WIN. How come the golf pros began licking their chops when a superb physical specimin like Michael Jordan wandered in and began playing golf - and betting on himself? Mayby he was a great b-baller, and a not too sucky baseballer, but he didn't know _shit_ and the dweebsters could clean his clock. Double or nothing? Why sure, Mr. Jordon. This is what Bill Belechik is dragging into football, there's a lot of kicking and screaming, but giant pumped-up men who will SQUASH you if you deviate - that's no longer a little boy's game. Klook out.

Jared Fuckup was the reason why the Loser Rams are two time Super Bowl losers, Fuckup Goff was under pressure he did not watch for defenders and he overthrew leading to Gilmore's interception. the big plays for the patriots ..like u said ..there could have been more interceptions..there could have been more touchdowns...dropped passes..big hits..sacks forcing hurried throws..the pats threw interception..7 points...missed field goal 3 points..missed an easy interception on one or two occasion...rams missed two touchdowns narrowly ..if all that happend your looking at a 30 17 pats final score...but see thats just it,...all the cerebral play calling and mastermining...needs the players to go out and execute it against another team trying a different strategy to stop you...and the physical aspect of football is always there...and what goes on in the players heads...,and then theres the stuff nobody plans on it just happens when you put everyone on the same field...brady to edelman..brady to gronk...thespecial plays from special players...rams defense was good..they have great defensive players..lest not us forget that defense gave up a bunch to the chiefs...pats showed they were just as good..so all the analysis ..which is great and interesting..brings us back to the bottom line...thats football..everything....not bits and pieces...its why its football..and different from other games ..but human beings really cant be measured in all things all the time...surprise yourself sometimes by proving everyone wrong...pats win for a reason...you showed here justanother of the many why...

Its not that Jared Goff is horrible, he just won't beat you on his own. Hes a place holder basically. The Patriots made Goff beat them and he didn't take away Gurley and you win. Theres a reason the Eagles beat LA in LA two years in a row.

Acum 5 Zile

Well mr.narrator you might not have been entertained but i sure as hell was,ya talk about offensive mistakes??? That's bc that d had Goff all bumfuzzled,by the time he could have realized kinda how to make his own personal adjustments,he was already sacked more than once, almost intercepted and didn't have the main passing threat they had all season...the play action...they used that as a subliminal backbreaker but bc they knew that they couldn't run it with the pats playing d the way they were...they were forced to abandon any real pure play action that would have fooled the pats, their defense had a guy who almost single handedly won my team (Broncos) Superbowl 50 against Carolina and was also the only coach who has had Brady's number...very few times has Brady beaten Wade Phillips at a high level if at all so to me for Brady to be as clutch as he was speaks volumes, this game was truly a chess match throughout and i think only football fiends will be able to see past the lack of "traditional" entertainment value n appreciate it for what it was....one of the best Superbowls I've ever seen n the best defense ever in a SB (pats obviously) now was it the best a SB could be?...no, I'd rhrow in 2 more tds between them making the score 20-10 or 17-10 in the final 5 minutes now take that with nothing else changed n i dont believe it could be topped but still as it is..still great n I'll never forget that masterful display of defense🤘

you obviously know a lot about this stuff, question-I feel the Saints screwed up royally by passing (incomplete) 2 times with less than 2 minutes and 2 timeouts left for Rams, who would have gotten the ball back with around a minute or less & no timeouts vs. 1:47 and a timeout(bad no interference call notwithstanding), what do you think?

Acum 5 Zile
umkrautbitter inmeinblot
umkrautbitter inmeinblot

You know your stuff. I thought the SB was boring, thanks for your insights into the play calling. The one thing that interests me is how the Bears at Solgier Feild stopped the Rams in the regular season on SNF football. Did the Patriots do anything the Bears did that night in the SB? I think that Goff is a future HOF player and will be back to the SB. I am a huge Steeler fan ,and I really think the Steelers played like 2 teams and never consistant. I don't know how they are going to address their needs with so few picks in the 2019 draft. I really like James Connor, but he is not Bell. I beleive a lot of Steeler games last season showed that without Bell the Running game suffered. Unlike most Steeler fans, I have nothing against Bell. The Steelers didn't compensate him as will be seen when another team does this Spring. I don't understand why the Rooneys are trying to mess with Bell? The compensation pick is all the Steelers are going to get? If Bell is not injured , he will really improve a team willing to Give him Todd Gurley type money. I think the Steelers need a Running back, but mostly they need another great CB to go with Joe Haden. I think it is time to move on from Artie Burns? Is there a real solution that can make the Steelers better? How can the Steelers improve with so few picks in this year's draft? Also, I am angry at Antonio Brown, but I think everyone needs to cool out. I think it is best for the Steelers and Brown to stay a Steeler. If they move Brown, the Steelers will get only a #2 round pick from SF, and SF will really improve with AB and speedster Goodwin as their recievers. I really feel hopeless for the Steelers off-season? Am hitting the panic button to quick? WHAT CAN REALLY BE DONE?

On the INT by Gilmour, You comment that Cooks should have use his strength to take that pass in and I agree. However, one of the knocks on Cooks with the Pats last year was he didn't make adjustments on passes typically over running and not coming back to the ball, also he didn't fight for the ball when the opportunity was there, therefore letting defensive players intercept or knock passes down. So unless the pass is close to perfect and there's minimum contact Cooks doesn't make plays like that... Edelman and Gronk typically do...

It’s called ‘automatic front coverage’ or ‘AFC’ – not “check with me” on defense. This was a old (but modernized) Buddy Ryan defense conceptually, only with different personnel grouping’s, favoring more lighter players on the field in both blitzing and coverage concepts. It’s so awesome watching Belichick go to the ‘well’ for whatever style or schematics that needs to be run against certain systems! It’s a breath of fresh air!

That Rams receiver was about as wide open at the back of the EZ as you could hope for, and an alert Pats defender ran him down and knocked his arm off the football when he had no chance at the ball itself; it was legal as the receiver had already touched the ball. A combination of athletic ability to close the gap and smart play, and it was a game changer.

In the current NFL age of protection for QB's and receivers and multiple wide receivers [ie. backs lined up wide 1 yd behind line o scrimmage], keeping a team not just out of the end zone, but out of the RED zone, in a game of this magnitude is a defensive gem.

For some reason, opposing coaches can rarely handle the Pats O-line in clutch situations. Think of 4th quarter and OT against Atlanta, or the recent playoff comebacks against the Ravens and Seahawks and Indy and KC and in the 4th Q of this game. The O-line almost always keeps Brady clean in those moments, and the opponents D-line and LBs are tripped up or confused by the pulls and where the holes will be opened. Throw in the amazing Gronk, a really tough FB and small RBs who don't miss their chips, and even Edelman, who is a tenacious blocker, and you have grinding dominance. (Pass blocking is also great but Brady throws the ball so fast and that helps significantly.) Again and again I see LBs and safeties and even DEs attack the wrong gap or get plowed aside by Devlin. It exhausts them. I cannot believe that the Rams didn't call a defensive time out during the TD drive, when they desperately needed a reset. If you look back at film from the Atlanta game you'll see defenders who misjudge their positioning again and again. The ball control discrepancy in this game was huge. Pats defense got more rest despite the lack of scoring because Edelman extended drive after drive with 3D down grabs. The Rams MVP was pretty much the punter, who buried the Pats again and again. But ironically it led to longer (if futile) Pats drives kept the Rams D on the field. By the end, the Rams had zero hope of stalling the late-game runs, included the TD, where they basically escorted Michel into the EZ. This game turned on three or four plays, max, and having a fresher D at the end made the difference.

What I love about breaking a game down to this level is that it exposes what truly makes a great football player. No one in the NFL wants their defense in 2nd or 3rd down and short situations. The problem with the SB was simple, neither Brady or Goff could hit the target and the rams O-line played very poorly, thus no run game. It was not a great defensive game, it was a very poorly played offensive game.
